The London Sinfonietta held their first concert on 24th January 1968, 50 years later, yesterday, they celebrate a half century of making risk-taking music!
The Lark team were pleased to have been a part of the celebrations, sponsoring and attending the anniversary events, marked with two concerts! The day began with a breakfast concert, also the first World Premier Wednesday of the year.
Our time partnering with the London Sinfonietta has allowed us to venture into the music world more, as we have since commissioned pieces of music ourselves. In fact, our first Sinfonietta Short, a piece called Inside Colour by Deborah Pritchard won the solo award at the BASCA awards just before Christmas.
It is also an honour as we commissioned a third new piece of Music by one of our great contemporary classical composers - Colin Matthews. This was a beautiful piece for alto flute entitled Bell– Wether.
David Foster, Managing Director of Lark Private Clients said, welcomed attendees of the morning concert, “It’s not every day that an insurance broker gets to appear on stage at the Royal Festival Hall! We at Lark are committed to supporting the musical arts, and your support as clients would help us to do this. It’s really important to support live music and new music. All music was new once, and music is meant to be performed and heard live. That’s why we support this series of concerts, and why we’re sponsoring the event tonight!”
The London Sinfonietta 50th Anniversary concert, was also held at the Royal Festival Hall and entitled Past, Present and Future. This featured new music by Samantha Fernando, and others as well as classic works from Ligeti, Birtwhistle and Stravinsky.
Lark also share a special birthday this year with the London Sinfonietta – Lark is 70 this year, although not until April. It’s also an exciting year for us as we as a business merge with our friends from Aston Scott, and will become later this year Aston Lark.
In attendance at the breakfast event was David Foster, Managing Director of Lark Private Clients, our Group MD Stuart Rootham and Group CEO Peter Blanc as well as our Chairman Steve Lark.
We also hosted a party for a number of guests in the Royal Festival Hall, before and during the interval.
