Lark clients and Royal College of Music patrons enjoyed a magical evening of music in the college’s Parry Rooms on Wednesday, May 10.
Lark scholars Alexandra Lomeiko and Renate Sokolovska, alongside 2014 BBC Young Musician of the Year Martin James Bartlett, treated guests to a recital which highlighted their extraordinary talent and sheer devotion to playing music at the highest standard.
All three students are in the process of taking their end of year examinations and Renate told the audience that the evening gave her an opportunity for more performance practice.
Violinist Alexandra, accompanied by pianist Antonina Suhanova, performed the Sonata No. 2 for Violin in G Major Op. 77 by Ravel, charming the audience with her handling of the beautiful, flowing music and finishing with the virtuosic Perpetuum Mobile Allegro third movement.
Alexandra will leave the college this summer and we look forward to watching her career blossom.
Renate, accompanied on piano by Tamila Salimdjanova, chose to play the 1st movement of the Erwin Schulhoff Sonata for flute and piano as well as pieces she will play as part of her Orchestral Performance Masters Programme. A real treat.
Martin, a concert pianist who will be competing in the prestigious Van Cliburn competition, in Fort Worth, Texas, later this month had taken an examination that morning but showed no sign of fatigue and immediately grabbed the audience’s attention with his dramatic style while his tutor and mother looked on – no pressure, Martin!
Fiona Rose, senior development manager at the RCM said: “I am delighted that Lark Insurance shares the pleasure and pride they get from supporting their scholars at the Royal College of Music with their clients and associates.
“The scholars thrive on the many opportunities Lark can offer as they build their careers, and these events are now proving to be a highlight both for the young musicians, the Lark team and their guests.
“We hope more people will be inspired to support these emerging young professionals.”
