On Wednesday 11th September, Aston Lark held their 4th annual Team Athlon. Taking place at Bewl Water Reservoir in Tunbridge Wells, the event saw over 100 people attend, with both spectators and racers coming together from across the country.
The event was in aid of Aston Lark’s two corporate charities, Macmillan Cancer Support and Alzheimer’s Research UK. We were kindly joined by two representatives from Alzheimer’s Research UK to enlighten us about their work and cheer on our competitors as they set off and crossed the finish line.
There was a wide range of participants across all age groups from Aston Lark and several insurer partners including Aviva, Hiscox, RSA, Allianz, Chubb, British Engineering Services, and Arch Insurance.
Races comprised of a 15km cycle, 10km run or 5km run, all taking place on a demanding course set around the reservoir. In typical British tradition the weather didn’t hold out, yet the wind and rain didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. A great performance was put in by all, with the winners of each race as follows:
- 15k Male Cycle – Ben Macmillan – Aston Lark
- 15k Female Cycle – Hazel Doherty – British Engineering Services
- 10k Male Runner – Ben Carver – Aviva
- 10k Female Runner – Emma Bartolo – Chubb
- 5k Male Runner – Sam Varley – Arch Insurance
- 5k Female Runner – Alison Waters – Aston Lark
Having rehydrated and stretched, everyone headed back inside the venue where Bewl Water provided a BBQ and drink reception. Following this, a speech from Stuart Rootham, Group Managing Director at Aston Lark and a raffle of hampers made up by prizes donated by each office concluded the day on a high.
The event so far has raised over a fantastic £8000!
Alice Roberts from Aston Lark Charity Committee says:
“I have thoroughly enjoyed arranging another fantastic day for the Aston Lark Team Athlon. Seeing how supportive everyone is of the day getting involved whether it’s running, cycling or volunteering just shows how much of a team we are at Aston Lark. It is great our insurer partners could join us to and we hate to admit it but they beat us at the majority of races!”
“I would just like to thank the charity committee for all their help with raising money in their offices for the day and for the amazing hamper donations! The amount of money we have raised can make an amazing difference to the charities. “
“Another special thanks goes to the volunteers on the day as we couldn’t have run the day without them. Their support for the participants and organisational skills really helped make the day. ”
Aston Lark would also like to thank Bewl Water for providing us with a fantastic venue and hospitality.
