Aston Lark was the proud sponsor of the annual Softball tournament for London land-based Casinos for 2019. The event was organised by an existing Aston Lark client, Crown London Aspinalls, in partnership with DICE (Diversity and Inclusion for Career Enhancement) UK that forms part of the National Casino Forum.
DICE UK was launched in November 2018 with a brief to promote diversity and inclusion in the casino sector. With a seven-member board, its role is to create greater awareness within the industry and to help operators combat unconscious bias in recruitment, retention and promotion.
The event also looked to raise money for Combat Stress (Crown London Aspinalls’ charity partner) which is the UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health. For a century, Combat Stress has helped former servicemen and women with mental health problems, such as anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The work they do is life-changing and often life-saving.
Darren Jackson, Corporate Fundraising Officer from Combat Stress said, “We are delighted to be Crown Aspinalls’ charity partner. The money raised will help to transform veterans’ lives, giving the men and women Combat Stress support, fast and direct access to the tools they need to treat their mental health conditions.”
Despite the unpredictable UK weather, the event was well supported, with a real family atmosphere. The afternoon was kicked off by a quick introduction to the rules of softball and an outline of the unique services that Combat Stress provide.
Women and men representing Aspers, Crown London Aspinalls, Les Ambassadeurs and Hippodrome (plus a few Aston Lark helpers) took to the field in Regent’s Park to engage in the round robin stage of the competition.
From this, Crown London Aspinalls and Les Ambassadeurs contested a very close final, with Les Ambassadeurs eventually being crowned champions after an extra innings. They will be in charge of organising the event in 2020 as reigning champions.
“It is always great to see our wonderfully diverse community come together to support and participate in the friendly annual tournament between the London casinos,” Tracey Stevenson from Crown London Aspinalls & DICE UK said.
She continued: “This year we were thrilled to have our supporters, DICE UK and Aston Lark insurance brokers including our charity partner Combat Stress support the day and contribute to its success. We look forward to future successes these partnerships will bring.”
Tim Weymouth of Aston Lark said: “Both DICE and Combat Stress have values very close to those that Aston Lark care about. We are delighted that the event was a success and look forward to continuing to work with both of these great organisations in the future. Aston Lark has significant experience with clients within the UK land-based casino space and understands the unique insurance requirements they present, so it was great to have the opportunity to meet new contacts within this unique industry sector.
