Hotel chain saved over £50,000 on their premium as part of an insurance broker review.

 

About the hotel:

A hotel chain operating across three countries had worked with the same insurance broker for 20 years. Having decided it was time to consider a change, they asked Aston Lark to undertake a review of their insurance programme. The hotel chain had invested heavily into refurbishing their portfolio over the past five years to create a collection of high-quality hotels and wanted their insurance cover to reflect and protect this.

Our solution:

One of their challenges was the increasing frequency of ‘trip, slip and injury’ claims from both employees and guests. They employ management and maintenance employees of a high calibre and had in the main good processes.

Like other hotels, they are faced with relatively high staff turnover, which creates an admin-intensive task of induction and ongoing training. We had identified the need for improved record-keeping and group-wide deployment of enhanced procedures. 

As part of our review, we introduced them to an insurer that offers an online training platform, which enabled the client to roll out induction training for all new recruits at all establishments.

This delivered a consistent approach to best practice and health and safety with training records recorded, putting our client in a far more resilient position.

Furthermore, we organised access to an online claims portal which enables our client to record, view and manage claims easily. This gives the central management team the ability to identify claim trends at any location and take remedial action.

Outcome:

Not only were we able to improve the risk profile of this business in the insurance market, we also negotiated to save them £50,000 on their insurance premium. They were delighted to appoint Aston Lark as their new broker and reinvest the money saved into the continued refurbishment of their hotels.
