Aston Lark’s 3rd annual Team Athlon took place on 6th September at Bewl Water reservoir in Tunbridge Wells. With a total of 125 people attending the event, this was our largest Team Athlon to date!
The day was arranged for Aston Lark’s two chosen charities, Macmillan Cancer Support and Alzheimer’s Research UK. Georgi Welch and Katy Abraham joined us from Alzheimer’s Research to inform us about their work and they participated in the race too.
As well as participants from Aston Lark, several insurer partners took part in the event, including Allianz, Aviva, Chubb, Covéa, Ecclesiastical, Fusion and Arista and NIG. In total, these insurers donated £2,500 to our chosen charities, which is greatly appreciated.
At the start of the day, after everyone had registered, received their race number and digested their bacon roll, the race briefing took place and everyone made their way down to the start line.
The participants raced in either a 15km cycle, 10km run or a 5km run, which all took place on a gruelling course that was muddy, undulating and very narrow at times. Despite this, there were fantastic performances all round, with the winners of each event listed below:
- Male 5km run winner – Steve Hodges, Ecclesiastical
- Female 5km run winner – Angela Miller, Aston Lark, Colchester
- Male 10km run winner – Stuart Williamson, Aston Lark, Farnborough
- Female 10km run winner – Justine Allen, Aston Lark, London
- Male 15km cycle winner – Ben Macmillan, Aston Lark, London
- Female 15km cycle winner – Lisa Gaskin, Covéa
So far, the event has raised £6,400 and this is expected to increase!
Alice Roberts from Aston Lark Charity Committee says, “A brilliant day was had by all Aston Lark colleagues and insurers at the Team Athlon. The day involved lots of laughs, competitive spirit, team spirit and prizes. I dare say a lot of people were feeling a bit sore the next day! I would just like to thank everyone for their kind donations and support in raising money for our two chosen charities.”
Aston Lark would like to thank all the volunteers who helped with the event, without whom the day would not have been possible. As well, thank you to Bewl Water, which provided a fantastic backdrop to a really enjoyable event.
