Working from home has become the new normal for many people because of Covid-19 pandemic. However, have you considered the insurance cover you have and what you may need for the future?
The Association of British Insurers issued guidance* amidst the pandemic that means if you are an office-based worker and are working from home because of the pandemic, your home insurance cover will not be affected. You therefore do not need to contact your insurers to extend the cover under your home insurance. However, this pledge is set to be reviewed on 31st October 2020 and if you are planning to work from home on a more frequent basis, you will need to inform your insurer.
Whilst the below guide is not exhaustive, it includes some considerations for cover that you may need:
- Liability for any visiting guests for your work
- Liability for you visiting other homes or work premises
- Office equipment cover- computers, printers, phones, Employers Liability cover for any employees you may have to come work with you from your home
Anyone who is not office-based should inform their insurers if they are working from home to ensure that the cover provided by their home insurance policy has not been affected and that they have the appropriate cover required.
